Greetings From A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Bright Suns 💫  (aka Good Morning) from Batuu.

Today, I am FINALLY getting around to sharing with you all the details (and exciting news) regarding Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Walt Disney World.

For those of you who may be unaware, back in late August Galaxy’s Edge opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The massive, extremely immersive land featured one ride at opening called Smuggler’s Run, which allows park guests to ride on the Millennium Falcon and complete a mission. Riders are assigned a role of Pilot, Gunner, or Engineer, and one of the coolest parts about this ride (in my opinion) is that you absolutely CAN and MIGHT fail and destroy the Falcon. From my personal experience, it does seem like the Pilot definitely has the coolest job, but either way I had a ton of fun on this ride. It truly felt so real, and like nothing I have ever experienced.

Another feature of Galaxy’s Edge is two unique quick service dining locations. Docking Bay 7 and Black Spire Outpost are two locations where guests can grab some snacks and treats that are literally out of this world. I highly recommend a Ronto Wrap for a savory snack option. Here, in the Black Spire Outpost Market, you can also try both Blue and Green Milk! (Hint: blue is on the sweeter side, while the green milk tastes more earthy)

For those of you in the mood for a lively crowd and adult beverages, I absolutely recommend snagging a dining reservation for Oga’s Cantina. The drinks definitely come at a higher price, and some of them are a little on the strange side, but the atmosphere alone makes the price worth every penny. Since the popularity of Oga’s since opening, I absolutely recommend getting a reservation in advance as they often don’t accept “walk-ins”. Keep checking your My Disney Experience app the day before and morning of, as someone may cancel and a reservation could become available. Since we are on the topic of it being crowded, be warned that since opening Oga’s has a few rules that guests are informed of before entering. There is a two drink limit per guest, and each party is not permitted to stay for longer than 45 minutes. We were also instructed that wherever we were placed in the bar, we could not move to any other locations. There is very limited seating, so we were placed at a standing bar. Overall, it was such a fun experience. We really enjoyed the drinks, the cast members were lots of fun and very entertaining, and R3X really enhances the atmosphere with his awesome playlists and pub songs. I will include photos of the drinks we ordered below, as well as prices and recommendations.

Oga’s Cantina - Fuzzy Tauntaun (left, $16 each). These give your mouth a numbing tingle, super cool and yummy. Top right is the Slug Slinger ($16), has a very earthy bitter taste. Bottom right is the Outer Rim ($17) this wareally great, like a fruity margarita.

R3X- being an awesome DJ!

Next, the CHARACTERS! This was one of my favorite parts of this area. In Galaxy’s Edge you will often see Rey, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, and stormtroopers just walking about. This just adds to the immersive experience, and makes it all feel so real. At one point, I was walking and taking a photo when I accidentally bumped into someone. When I turned to apologize it was Rey! I was so surprised, but it is seriously amazing to see them just out doing their thing.

Finally, on to some exciting news and updates, today December 5th, 2019 is the official opening of the second ride in Galaxy’s Edge - Rise of the Resistance. This ride allows guests to battle the first order, and is so far said to be an incredible adventure that is truly the first of its kind. I will remain eager to experience this ride, and will be sure to give my thoughts after we finally get to experience it. Opening day has seen very large crowds for this ride, so I am sure this area is going to be quite busy for a while. Another piece of exciting news related to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is that Disney has finally released some more information on the opening of the long-awaited Star Wars hotel. The hotel is officially titled Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser and is set to open some time in 2021. This hotel will be fully immersive, and therefore come with a hefty price tag. For serious Star Wars lovers, it provides a once in a lifetime opportunity, and will be sure to wow. Guests of the hotel will be able to be shuttled to a back entrance into Galaxy’s Edge. I will keep waiting for more details (and save my pennies because I’m going to need to). Disney has announced that guests will be permitted to stay for two nights, and will experience a cruise style itinerary.

Concept art and more information about the Galactic Starcruiser hotel can be found below.

Whether you are a huge Star Wars fan or not, Galaxy’s Edge truly is a magnificent experience full of details and sights that only Disney could provide. I highly recommend you all check it out during your next visit to Hollywood Studios, I promise it will not disappoint.

See ya real soon,
